This Is Us
The Jaulian Project believes in creating a community of confident and empathetic leaders through youth empowerment and gender inclusivity. To this end, it has incubated a social enterprise ‘This is Us’ founded by two young girls Tia Aftab and Dina Aftab, who wish to see an egalitarian society with equal access to public and private spaces for girls. As an organization, This is US hopes to create a community of care for young girls, where they can seek each other’s support, share their ambitions and struggles, and dream together a future that promises them equal opportunity in education, healthcare and workplaces.

This is Us: DISCOVER
This is US: DISCOVER connects young female leaders from 18-22 as mentors with 8-18-year old scholars in a leadership program guided by the wisdom of experienced guides and coaches. This program entails building awareness, leadership skills, and self-awareness through inner work in young women to empower them to inform their own actions and leadership in the future.
The inaugural edition of the DISCOVER program was held from the 15th – 29th of July 2020. We welcomed a diverse cohort of scholars and mentors from some of Pakistan’s biggest cities to some of its smallest. 31 scholars & 31 mentors were selected to take part in an immersive 2 week virtual program involving projects, Leadership Workshops, ‘Women Who Lead’ sessions, Collectives, College Counselling & Mentorship sessions.

Project Internships 2023
The Project Internships held in July 2023 were a space for growth, curiosity and connection. Over the month, interns across the Research, Writing and Community Engagement tracks explored issues they cared about, from menstrual equity to political participation, and worked closely with mentors to bring their ideas to life. Whether it was through writing articles and poems, designing awareness campaigns, or conducting in-depth research, each intern found their own voice and direction. Alongside their projects, they joined workshops on design, media, data collection and college counselling: tools to carry with them long after the internship ended. It was a month of learning, unlearning and building something that felt real and meaningful, together.

Project Reclaim
In 2019, “This is Us” kickstarted their first project focused on empowering girls to reclaim public spaces. We organized public walks, runs, and self-defense workshops for young girls in Karachi. Enabling young girls to confidently and comfortably exist in public spaces is our powerful act of reclaiming these areas. By organizing such activities, we built confidence, raised awareness, and symbolically and physically took back public spaces for girls on our own terms.

Wheels of Change
Girls for Climate Justice kicked off on November 23rd 2022 with a powerful 3-day program uniting girls from AKHSS Hunza and TCF. From icebreakers and the ‘Discovering Self’ activity to a deep dive into climate justice and SDG games, the first day set the tone for reflection and action rooted in our values of empower, reclaim, sustain.
Day two brought impactful workshops on feminine hygiene and digital upskilling, sparking important conversations around access, equity and agency. The program wrapped up with a heartfelt closing ceremony on day three, celebrating the community, learning and courage that defined our time together.
